The London Greeters aim to showcase neighbourhoods in London that can often be overlooked by visitors and to share their unique knowledge to help visitors appreciate some fascinating parts of London they might otherwise not experience.
We want to give visitors a very warm welcome to one of the greatest cities in the world. When you're new to it, a big city can sometimes feel like a daunting place to be, especially when you're off the beaten track. A London Greeter can help you feel at home and see the capital through the eyes of someone who lives here.
We can show you round the neighbourhoods where we live and work, and introduce you to local specialities, attractions, parks, alleys and sidestreets. If you have a special interest we can match you with a London Greeter who shares your enthusiasm. Greeters come from all walks of life and lots of different age-groups.
Roger Mason, for example, is a London Greeter who specialises in Camden Town and the surrounding neighbourhood. He took the reins for our very first greet when he met Steve and Carol Steinfeld from Chicago.
Roger said: "We enjoyed visiting Camden Lock when it wasn’t crowded, walked along Regents Canal towpath as far as Primrose Hill estate, returned to Camden High Street across the pedestrian bridge on Regents Park Road, and passed the Roundhouse. Steven is a Chicago Greeter and he and Carol were perfect guests, interested and well-informed. They gave me a first-class induction to Greeting."
Steven gave Roger some valuable feedback. "We had an excellent walking tour," he said. "It's hard to believe that this is your first one since you handled it very professionally. I was particularly impressed by your flexibility in altering your course when we expressed an interest in sites not on your original itinerary."
